Safe Environment (VIRTUS) Training
At St. Anne Catholic Church, the safety and well-being of children, youth, and vulnerable adults is one of our highest priorities. In accordance with the Diocese of Charleston, all clergy, employees, teachers, and volunteers who work with or have regular access to minors or vulnerable adults are required to complete VIRTUS® Safe Environment Training and maintain current certification. Prevention education is mandatory and must be renewed every five years.
Who Must Complete VIRTUS Training?
The following individuals are required to complete Safe Environment training before serving in ministry:
- Clergy
- Religious
- Seminarians
- Employees
- Teachers
- Volunteers who work with minors and/or vulnerable adults
All participants are also required to remain in compliance with diocesan Safe Environment policies and background screening requirements.
Training Includes
VIRTUS training helps create safe environments by providing education on:
- Protecting children and vulnerable adults
- Recognizing and preventing abuse
- Healthy boundaries for adults in ministry
- The Diocese of Charleston’s Code of Conduct and Ministerial Standards
- Reporting procedures and diocesan policies
- Safe ministry practices and ongoing compliance requirements

If you have already completed VIRTUS training within the Diocese of Charleston, simply log in to your existing account to maintain your certification and complete any required renewal courses.
